Hey! HERE’S AN IDEA. BE HAPPY WHITH WHAT YOU GET. AND BE THANKFUL THE WRITERS EVEN MADE YOUR SHIP CANNON. OR GAVE YOU A SPECIAL. OR PUT A CHARACTER YOU WANTED TO SEE IN IT.
YOU ASKED FOR IT. STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW MOFFAT IS DOING THE 50th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL OR HOW KHAN IS PLAYED BY BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH.
BE THANKFUL THAT YOU’RE GETTING A ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL OR HOW THEY PUT KHAN IN THE MOVIE.
Seriously. Or as a friend and I regularly rant, if you hate it that much, stop watching. No one is forcing you. And stop telling yourself that everything in the past was perfect because it wasn’t, and stop assuming that every passing writing choice is an overt attempt to oppress the indigenous people of wherever. Or just stop watching it.
When I went to see ST:ID last week with theperfectfish, we were discussing people complaining about BC ‘whitewashing’ the role. And how that was pretty amusing, considering that the character is supposed to be Asian but the original actor was pretty darn Mexican, because they chose him for his ability to play the part instead of his race…but give that role to a pasty Brit, and you’re undermining the meaning of the character, because…people of color are interchangeable and as long as you’ve got one in there you’re fine? Come on people.
